I know I know long time no see. I’ve been busy just flowing and taking care of My tribe but I’m so happy to see that you’re back and ready for a brief tutorial on how to start your blog.
I’m keeping it short and sweet, there’s no need to take a beginner blogger course or signup and pay for a weekly class because, well honestly all of that isn’t necessary. All you need to get started is listed step by step below.
Step 1: Pick a topic/blog name/domain name
This one is pretty self explanatory but I do want to say one thing. It is 100% OK if your blog is niche-less, don’t let anyone tell you other wise.
If you don’t have one specific topic that you want to focus on its fine because at the end of the day were all multifaceted and have a plethora of thoughts and ideas to share about many different topics. There are mommy bloggers out there who sometimes blog about their makeup routines, food bloggers who at times talk about the outfits they wear to dinner, and there are lifestyle bloggers who blog about it all!
We grow and change every day so it only makes sense that your blog will too. Just try to find the best way to tie it all together or simply advertise niche-less. Its possible, you just gotta put in the work.
When choosing a blog name try to keep it simple enough for interested followers to remember and also remember to search the database that is provided via the hosting site to see if your blog name is available.
When I started my blog the web address www.myvibemytribe.com was already taken so I simply added a (-) in the middle. Problem solved!
Step 2: choose a hosting site
A blog host is a company that saves all of your blogs data and delivers that data to the user when they type in your blog name.
There are plenty of hosting sites out there and choosing the right one for you may take some time. I researched for about 2 months before I finally decided to go with BLUEHOST. The ratings were just better and I have yet to hear one bad review. With bluehost you get 24 hour customer service and they even register your domain name for you so you can be sure that there will be no domain name duplicates, i.e. the blog domain name check I mentioned in step 1.
Step 3: Choose blog software
Blog software is the program one uses to create a blog. There are a lot of blog software providers to choose from ranging from BLOGGER to WORDPRESS to MYSPACE and XANGA. Each software provider offers different features to its customers so make sure you do your research prior to choosing the software you want. I use WORDPRESS and am very happy with the results. The customization possibilities are endless!
I also want to point out that wordpress has a blog site (WordPress.com) that you can blog on for free but the domain name will automatically include “wordpress” in it so just be mindful of that.
Heres an example below
Do you see the “WordPress” right smack dab in the middle? That’s what you will get with the free wordpress.com blog option via the . com site. Don’t get me wrong, free is awesome- I love free but in my opinion its less personable and leaves very little room, if any for site customization.
If you still think this option is best for you go ahead & get started the link is below.
If you prefer to have your own blog domain name without the extra “wordpress” right in the middle then you will have to pay for it, don’t worry the prices are very reasonable so go ahead and get started! That option is linked below as well.
Step 4: Customize
Ok here comes the fun part! Blog customization. I remember staying up late nights to customize my blog and I still make changes here and there. With WORDPRESS.ORG You can choose a theme, change its colors, select a background for your homepage, pick a landing page for readers to see before entering your site, and etc. The sky is the limit with blog customization and gets even more fun once you begin to code your own customization’s. Believe me the coding help is out there, just google what you fancy for your blog and follow the instructions.
Step 5: Your 1st post!
Once you navigate through the customization of your blog and its aesthetic is to your liking its time to write and post your 1st blog post!
Have fun with this part and be yourself. I’ve learned that the worst thing you can do is be untrue to you so always remain open and authentic with your writing. No ones life is perfect all the time so keep it all the way 100! Readers appreciate openness over fake shit any day of the week and so do I, wouldn’t you agree?
OK ladies and gents that’s it. Now get started cuz I cant wait to read your first post!
